Hugh Brasher was appointed CEO of London Marathon Events (LME) in June 2024, having been the Event Director since 2012. Hugh’s father Chris Brasher was a co-founder of the London Marathon (and pacer to Sir Roger Bannister in the first sub 4 minute mile) and Hugh has worked at the event since 1981.
LME organises a dozen running events in the UK, including the TCS London Marathon, Brighton Marathon, Royal Parks Half Marathon and Big Half. The company’s vision is inspiring activity and many of LME’s events have side events over shorter distances for children and families, notably the TCS Mini London Marathon.
Hugh is part of the senior management team of Athletic Ventures (AV), a joint venture between UK Athletics, The Great Run Company and London Marathon Events. AV organises major track and field events in the UK, including the annual London Diamond League and the 2026 European Athletics Championships, as well as selling the sport’s sponsorship rights. He is a Director on the Boards of Run 4 Wales, Maverick Race, Friday Night Lights and Motion Events..
Prior to joining LME Hugh ran the Sweatshop retail chain which he built up from a single store to 43 stores nationwide before he sold the chain to Sports Direct.
